I am the owner and guide of Maury River Smallmouth, LLC. I began smallmouth fishing the James when I was 7 years old, and have been in love with fishing since then. My earliest memory is catching a 16” smallmouth on a live hellgrammite when I was around 7 1/2. I fell in love with kayak fishing about three years ago, after moving to Rockbridge from Botetourt in 2015. That is when I first fished, and fell head over heels in love with the Maury. Since then I have logged 1000’s of hours kayaking down the various runs, and making great memories along the way. My favorite part of the fishing community is the fellowship and respect of one another, and a common love for the outdoors, and nature. I currently fish a 2021 FeelFree Moken 12.5, and fish on The Bass Cast Kayak Bass Series trail. It’s my dream to fish national kayak tournaments one day, and I also love teaching kids, and adults the ins and outs of kayaking and fishing. Join me on an adventure sometime and let’s make some memories and catch some fish!!
Matthew 4:19 - And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley, my wife of 36 years and I live in Stuarts Draft. I have fished as long as I can remember in just about every pond, lake or river I could get to as a kid. Since then, I have owned big boats and canoes. I even spent time in the U.S. Army on tug boats where I fished every chance I got. When I moved from canoes to kayaks years ago as they began to get popular, I realized this is the best way to get out and enjoy the great outdoors that God has provided. Experiencing fishing or just getting out from a kayak is just amazing. The quite peaceful time spent on a river or lake with great friends and family is irreplaceable. I really enjoy river floats hunting down trophy small mouth, but my passion is chasing down monster blue catfish and flatheads. I’ve even landed some 40 plus pound carp just a few pounds from the state record. I look forward to getting out and learning from others and sharing my knowledge with others. Now that I have 2 kayaks, I hope to share this experience with others that may never have that chance. Rise up, take courage and do it. Ezra 10:4. God, Family, Country.
Residing in the Shenandoah Valley with my beautiful wife, two children and grandson. I started Kayak fishing 15 years ago on the rivers that flow through the mountains of Virginia above the fall line. Whether it's the coldest day of winter or the hottest day of summer you'll find me out on a river. "There's nothing like the beautiful chaos of a river." -Drew Gregory
Chasing Bronzebacks and Muskellunge in these rivers are my passion along with the conservation of these rivers, Ensuring the next future Angler can enjoy. I look forward to helping in any way I can in your next adventure on the river.
I have lived here in Virginia a large majority of my life and currently reside in Shenandoah, VA with my beautiful wife of nearly 16 years and our three beautiful children. Fishing has been a love of mine as far back as I can remember spending summers as a kid with my Granny Rose in Fort Valley, VA catching buckets of bluegills to cook up for dinner!
As I got older my love for fishing never changed and I’ve been lucky to experience many opportunities to fish for all different types of species. From my very first personal best largemouth on Lake Anna, to a trophy smallmouth out of the Rappahanock river caught from my very first kayak, right down to that elusive muskie. I fall more in love with this sport every time!
I’ve been fishing from a kayak for over 7 years now and have learned so much! Going out and spreading the knowledge that I have gained around this now hugely popular way to fish is something I’m excited about. I especially enjoy getting newer kayakers, like my young kids, excited about what this sport is and how exciting it can be! I’ve always said there’s no better sound in the world than a slack line hook set!!!
I was raised in Afton Va at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. My wife Nancy and I currently live in Stuart’s Draft Va. I have always had a passion for the outdoors from a early age. I remember watching my daughter sit for hours casting a snoopy rod and reel when she was little and was happy to see her enjoy it as much as I do. I'm always looking to learn new fishing techniques and share those I have already learned with others. There is nothing like helping a child or even a grown new angler catch their first fish, or the first of a new species of fish. My wife and I will be fishing from Nucanoe Unlimited kayaks this season . I will be fishing the BassCast kayak fishing series as well as some other KBF events in my pursuit to qualify for an opportunity to fish in the prestigious KBF National Championship. From freshwater to saltwater I will fish for it . I am always looking for a new fishing challenge, and I would be more than willing to assist you with your next adventure!
I grew up in Nelson County, Va. I currently live is Stuart's Draft, Va with my husband, Casey. My first memories of fishing were when I was eight years old. That was the first time I ever cast a bait caster, which didn't go so well. After that I put fishing on the back burner, until I met my husband. He helped me discover my love for fishing and kayaking. I love getting up early and getting on the water to watch the sunrise. The feeling you get when there's a tug on your line, there's nothing more peaceful and exciting at the same time. As for the future, I plan to learn more fishing techniques that I can share with others and to pursue fishing tournaments on the local and national levels. I look forward to seeing everyone on the water!
Born and raised in Lynchburg, VA and I currently live there with my wife Stormy. I have 3 children, Griffin, Kara and Tre. Although fairly new to kayaking, I have been on the rivers for 25+ years cutting my teeth on a Mad River Explorer 16 canoe. We mainly float the many stretches of the James River but occasionally mix it up with the Maury, Shenandoah and Staunton rivers. I’m not a tournament fisherman but love to wet a line from time to time. My main goal is to get people outside and enjoy the outdoor things Virginia has to offer, mainly the rivers. I recently started a YouTube channel, Dubya’s Outdoor Adventures, where I share the activities we do in the outdoors. One of the goals there is to video log each stretch of water we float to show folks what to expect throughout each stretch, from put in to take out, so they can be prepared for what’s to come. I love spending time with my family and friends and what better way to do it than spending it experiencing God’s beautiful creation! Kayaking has re-introduced me to the love of the river and currently we have our own fleet of boats. I mainly float a Feel Free Moken 10V2 but I also have a Bonafide SS127 and a 3 Waters Big Fish 105. Griffin has a Bonafide SS107, Kara has a HooDoo Element 95, Stormy has a Crescent CK1 Venture and Tre floats her old HooDoo Element 100S. Our passion can’t be quenched and the time spent with loved ones only grows stronger the more we are together outdoors.
